Mustang 302 in my 94' F-150?
The short of it all is this:
Im getting an 87 Mustang 4cyl body with a 91 or 92 5.0 and C4. The body of the car is crap and I just dont care to work with it, but I have a 94 F-150 my Grandfather left me in his will with a bad engine and transmission and would like to swap the Stangs 5.0 into my truck. My truck came with a 5.0 as well, its 2 wheel drive, auto. Im assuming the engines are the same base engine, with different parts so that each fit its role. The Mustang as a sports car the truck as, well, a truck. So the engine should bolt right in, but wiring could be a problem and my #1 concern is transmission/driveshaft compatability.
I figured Id hop on here and get some information from the pro's on exactly what Im getting myself into.
The wiring, Im thinking wont be too problematic. I dont have a schematic of it all just yet, but from looking at my trucks engine and the engine in the Mustang, theres just not a whole lot going on. The fewer wires the better in my opinion. As of now my tentative plan for the wiring is to swap my trucks intake/distributer over to the Stang engine when I drop it in so I can maintain use of my trucks ECU and wiring (this is the only part that looks all that different to me.) and down the road some I plan on swapping out the trucks ECU for the Mustangs. Which will require (Im guessing) the use of the Mustangs engine bay harness and some constructive dash wire splicing.
I'm baffled as to the transmission though. The trucks, at a glance seems one whole hell of alot larger than the Stangs, and I dont see how the Stangs driveshaft will be long enough to work, nor my trucks small enough to for the C4. Does anyone know what would have to be done in that area? If it comes down to a custom driveshaft being made, that sucks but I can have it done. Will the trucks transmission bolt to the Stang Block? The trucks current transmission is shot to sheeznat, but it would work I could rebuild it, or just get one out of a junk yard. Im sure some local yards would do a straight up trade for my C4.
Anyway folks, sorry this is so long and rambling but Im gearing up for this project and really need to know what Im getting myself into. Im no novice on cars and have done several engine swaps but they've all been little 4 bangers (read Honda Jspec swaps and shyte). The place Im moving into has a garage and I have all the tools I'll need.. So its just a matter of knowledge now, which you all have in abundance and I am sorely lacking, =]
