My trusty '94 e150 van won't start :(

I am wondering if anybody has any suggestions.

It acted like a dead battery, but wouldn't take a jump. Took the battery to the place I bought it, where it was tested and declared dead. It was still in warranty so they gave me a new battery.

Still won't start. Jumping the solenoid doesn't do it.

My van used to have an aftermarket remote starter installed, but my old mechanic (now 1500 miles away) disconnected it when he replaced my ignition switch, because he thought it was faulty.

When I had the remote start hooked up, any time I lost power to the van I had to start the van with the remote once before the key would work.

The remote start is still in the circuit somewhere. When I hit the button, I hear a click and the yellow light comes on. If the remote start was still hooked up, the engine would be running at this point.

So, sorry for long post, but if it is related to the remote starter, is there any advice you can give me about what could be missing in the circuit?

And if it isn't the remote start, any thoughts about what else it might be?

I am female, and only slighlty handy. I'd just prefer not to pay for a tow truck if I can help it. I do my own maintenance and minor stuff...
