Need advice re: 2004 F-150 H. snow plow option - Ford Forums

I am considering purchasing a new 2004 F-150 with a quad cab. This appears to be the only vehicle with plenty of inside passenger room, a great ride, and factory authorized snow plow package.. plowing just for my own 2000 ft. driveway. I have concerns about ride quality due to the 'beefed up' front end..

Any suggestions from forum members regarding ride comfort, options. engines, auto trannies, rear end, etc. etc or any other feedback would be nost appreciated Thanks. Bob at presite3@msn.com

ok here comes my opinion and i repeat this is only an opinion (others may vary)
if you want to install a plow on a new 2004 F-150 somebody needs to smack you.

ok with that out of the way you obviously will ruin the ride quality unless you go with an airbag setup in the front end that you can discharge when the plow is removed.
you also will increase the wear and tear on the entire driveline and cause more heat to be generated by the trans.
so if you insist on plowing snow i suggest an aftermarket tranny cooler be added to help with the cooling needs.
other than that the next f-150 should be more than adequate for the job.

if all i was going to do was plow my own snow i would find an old tractor or truck and use that instead of my new $30,000+ F-150.
there are alot of 4x4 atv's on the market that will plow an amazing amount of snow as well.

Yeah whats wrong with a pre 1997 truck. That way you wouldnt have to worry about dings and bumps and it would be alot cheaper.

i forgot to say welcome to the site bob hope you find some useful info here and i appologize in advance for what comments you may receive.
you will find that most of us are pretty protective of our f series trucks.
you did say any feedback would be appreciated ?

if you can afford the next F-150 with a plow package then by all means go for it.

Could we perhaps interest you in a fully imported AU Falcon of our acquaintance. Will be a lot cheaper than the F-Series and it's already suitably equipped for snow work.

Dear 351, Thanks for your thought provoking response to my confusion as to the feasibility of planting a plow on the not yet released 2004 F-150 w/plow package. The dealer did assure me that the 2004 F-150 wil have a factory option for a snow plow. I guess I will have to continue to use my 2003 carerra 4 wd; which has plenty of power and torque.. but even a light snow causes me to just spin the tires as soon as the plow gets filled with especially the wet (heavy) snows. Perhaps they sell spiked tires
for the 911.. but I hate that smell of the burning rubber when my oversized tires grind into the wheel wells (only when I try to go left or right).. not to mention the bottoming out of the front end whenever I hitch up the plow... the darn thing just keeps scraping the ground on all but the smoothest roads.. Perhaps I should downsize my plow from 9 ft to 7 feet in width,, that would drop the weight another 450 lbs!..Thanks again for your wake up call. I guess I'll just use the carrera for fun..but my wife's gonna be happy.. as I made a real mess in the rec room when I welded the plow on to the frame .. well thats another story for another time.. Regards..
