Question New Ford owner with questions..

How is everyone...Ive always driven Dodge and a really good deal came along that i could not pass. I got a hold on a 98 F150 4x4 with 70K miles. The truck is great and I think its growing on me...the dodge side of me is still a bit uncomfortable...I only have a BIG problem with this truck, and i want to know if its the truck....Im only getting 270 to 320 miles per tank...the 320 was pushing it hard core....I have not invested anything in the truck...

Before i go out and get a set of plugs, filters and cleaners....what is the average MPG or MPT (tank) that this truck is looking at. I know its a heavy bitch but 40 dollars at the pump for 270 is just too much...my dodge would give me 390 for the same amount of gas. (Also 4x4 but not club cab)

Any input on the trucks common problems and good things will also be appreciated...thanks!!

Re: New Ford owner with questions..

Hows it going.

What size engine is in the truck first? What gears do you have in it.

What is that in miles per gallon? I'm not quite certain what size your tank is so i couldn't work it out my self. Its usually between 10 and 20 mpg depending on the engine

Re: New Ford owner with questions..

Yea, i guess size engine would help....its the triton 5.4...its automatic, so i always keep it in reverse ....its in drive with overdrive ON. The tank is 25. I can figure out my MPG...i just want to know if 270 is normal for this truck running in light conditions.

Re: New Ford owner with questions..

270 miles out of a 25 gallon tank seems a little low to me. The 5.4L doesn't have the greatest fuel economy but that still doesn't seem right to me. As '89 said, gearing will have a lot to do with your cruising mileage. Changing the O2 sensors and a good tune up would be where I would start.

Re: New Ford owner with questions..

yes 270 miles to a tank of 25 gal is only a little more than 10 mile to a gallon !
lets see ,
a 5.4 liter tritan on a 98 4x4 should put in this area.
12-15 in town and 16-19 on highway !
thats the range no matter what style or gear ratio for the 98 models.
