I am looking for a utility vehicle to drive daily and haul my 4-wheeler. I found a F150 for sale... its a 1995 XL with a straight 6 and a 4sp + OD. IT has 176,000 miles on it... do these engine/drive train combos have a good reputation for lasting 200k+ miles? (300k????) I know there is always the factor of how well it was maintained, but I asking in general terms. Im not familiar with Fords, Ive always like Jeep pickups, but those are all getting quite old now. Im looking for opinions concerning the pros and cons of the Ford F150.
yes the 300 cu in 6 cylinder is one of fords more reliable engines.
if it was maintained properly it will last for a good number of yrs and many miles.
even to rebuild that engine is not to bad because the parts are readily available at any parts store.
more than likely it will fill your needs !

the 300 ci inline six is the toughest engine i've ever owned. you've usually got at least another 50,000 once you start to hear noise. FORD POWER!
The clutch on this thing is already going out ... any recommendations on where to get the best replacement? I see that advance auto has the whole kit (Clutch, Disk and TOB) for cheap .. $134 I think. But I have always gone by the rule "you get what you pay for". So I'm a bit suspicious of that deal. They also have a kit made by "ZOOM" for $295 and Back/Arnley kit for $195.
Is it better to get a new flywheel rather than letting the machine shop re-surface the old one? The only Manual transmission setups I have ever dealt with were on my old Pontiac race cars. .. they always got new flywheels. I dont know about having one resurfaced.
I would get a new flywheel and TOB. I see it as fixing it before it falls apart. No sense on replacing the clutch to only come back a few months later to have to replace the TOB or even remachine the flywheel.
Just my 2 cents.. You can take it for what its worth.
