Overcharge

I have a 78 f150 with a 400 in it. i put a new alt in it and a new voltage regulator in it. when it idols its pushin about 13 volts, but when i hit the gas it jumps right up to 17/18. any suggestions? thanks

Try running a seperate ground from the alt to the frame. Cost is next to nothing and may solve your problem.
