hello folks!
i am having an overheating problem with my 86 4.9l inkline6.
Things ive checked:
water pump is circulating
bypassed heater core because of leak
new thermostat
clutch fan does spin
coolant level is fine.
the thermostat appears to be functioning properly. should i assume that if the thermostat moves than it is fine and i didnt get a faulty one? also the engine will stay cool if i take out the thermostat and re-mount the housing.
Can i use the thermostat removal as a temporary fix for the prob? or am i creating more problems by doing so? The main prob is when i drive the truck temp is fine but when i stop it overheats. haynes says something about pully belts but they look fine as well. Please help.
