i dont think you could use one of a newer truck. I think you may have problems. I'm not to sure what kind of problems, i'd have to llok that up. From memory i think you'd have seal and leak problems and possibly other stuff go wrong as well. But if you get one for your model it should be just a bolt on type job.

I've heard of people doing it so there must be some out there. I think the brand is something like Bendix or something with a B. try searching that and see what ya come up with.

If your truck is equipped with the "Twin I beam's" you can use the steering box off of any other "F" serie's truck up to 76, but you can't use the pitman as is. The newer pitman arm MUST be heated and bent to match the old one. Also the steering shaft is different. It's shorter on unit's with power steering. It would be best to use a complete steering column out of another truck. Be sure and replace the "Rag" joint.

Thank's to a good friend in the know I did this conversion on a 62 "Unibody" a few year's back. The power steering worked great, but it handled real bad. It wanted to roam all over the road. After getting out my wallet I replaced the King Pin's, Drag Link, Tie rod End's. That made all the difference in the world. Wound up selling the truck a week after finishing it. The man made me an offer I couldn't refuse.
