confused Rear end Clear up needed

Okay so i have a 1996 Ford F150 shortbox, 5.0 302 with a blown rear end, one two many smokes shows, it has the Ford 8.8 3 55 rear end, i have access to a 1988 Ford Bronco, but the only numbers that match up on the stamp on the rear diff cover are the 3 55 8.8, are those the only numbers i need in order to swap the rear ends or am i missing something?!?

Re: Rear end Clear up needed

The 8.8 was used from 1959-2006 and is a 10 bolt cover. The main question is what's the spline count? This you'll have to find out. It will have either 28 or 31 splines. If they both have the same number of splines it'll work out just fine. An easy way to count is to find a small magnet and mark a spline, and as you turn it begin counting until you get back to the first spline. Keep in mind of course that you'll have to change out the gear oil which I would imagine you were planning on anyway.
