confused Recall

Hi I am new to this forum board.
I have a question?
I have a 2001 F150 Triton 4.6L with 39,000 miles I recently began to have a problem. My truck seems like it is starving for gas. It doesnt shut off or the engine light does not come on it just does stay in a idling postion. Once I turn off the truck for awhile and take off there is no problem until alot later same thing happens. I took it to the Ford dealer to get it fixed they told me I needed a fuel filter and air filter so I let them put it on. It fixed the problem for 1 week and started again.
My friend told me I need to change the sock or filter that is connected to the fuel pump. He said that the sock is clogged and when I turn off the truck it release the pressure or junk in the sock and allows the truck to run right again. He also told me to check if there was a recall on this truck concerning this problem.
Has anyone had this similar problem in their truck and what did you do to get it fixed and please does anyone know that there every was a recall for my truck on this particular problem.

Re: Recall

Check this site, it's the National Highway Safety and Transportation Authority, they've got a section for Recalls and Campaigns which may be able to help you out.

Re: Recall

Check for recalls at http://www.alldata.com/recalls/ Your friend means the fuel pump thats in the fuel tank. Do you have one tank? Is your truck under warranty? Maybe draining and cleaning out the tank, last resort.???? Could be fuel filter is clogged again?? I have an 87 f150 4.9 and my external fuel pump is going bad, it's doing the same thing as yours. Is your fuel pump making a load winning noise coming from under your feet when your driving? Ps how do i start a new post, i'm new to this site. :) Thanks, Mike

Re: Recall

My truck is fixed. Mike it was my fuel pump, the pump cost $200 and labor $200 it was expensive but runs great now. My fuel pump was not making a loud winning noise from under my feet it just felt like I was ready to run out of gas and lose power.
Thanks for the replies.
