Replacing Actuators for Frnt Doors

I have a 2000 F250 Superduty 4x4, and I have to replace the actuators for the door locks. Does anyone have any advice for me before I attempt to replace these myself? I went to the Ford dealer and he told me they needed to be replaced and gave me an estimate of $450.00 to do it. I checked around and the actuators are only $40.00 Ea! So maybe theres something I dont know about replacing them any info would be extremely helpful! Thanks!

Re: Replacing Actuators for Frnt Doors

I have yet to replace any in the new F-series trucks but if they're anything like the actuators in many of the earlier trucks(which they probably are), they're a breeze to change. Replacing them simply requires removing the door panel, drilling out the large rivet that holds the actuator mount in place, and removing the actuator from the door. The new actuator should come with a new rivet and mounting bracket.

The only tools you'll need are a drill, a screwdriver for removing the door panel, and a rivet gun.

Obviously, this is based on my experiences with earlier models. No promises that yours will be replaced in the same fashion!

Good luck!
