Running water sound inside cab of F150?? - Ford Forums

My father in-law recently gave me his 1993 F150, which is in outstanding condition, as good of condition as my 1998 Explorer..

It's got the 300 I6...

5 Spd

165K miles..

No oil drips or leaks.....runs fantastic!

The question is: When I fire it up in the morning, I hear what sounds like "water running or flowing" in the general area of the glovebox.....

Anybody have any clues as to what this might be..?

I have a 98 Explorer, and a 97 Crown Vic as well, and have never heard anything like it...

Sounds like coolant flowing through the heater core to me. The heater core is normally right behind the glove compartment. It may be that you have a little air in your coolant system. Double check the coolant level and top it off if it's low. Air in the system will cause you to hear what you're hearing.

Ya, man check what '92BigBronco said & "some people take out the thermostats ,,?" so the water may just be rolling right thru, your heater core. "That may be the noise ? "

The truck does run cold as hell, and never, EVER gets over 1/4 up the temperature scale..

I asked my father in law about it, and he said the colder it runs the better...

I thought that I understood that a vehicle is supposed to run within a "temperature range" to run efficiently, but he disagreed, and his truck does have 165K on it and runs like new, so I left it alone...

i dont no the explanation but the truck needs to run at a certain temp to run as good as it can.

yes i have to agree with what was said the engine should be run around 190 degrees and without a thermostat it would never get hot and also cause the rush of coolant thru the heater core when the water pump comes to life.
could possible be just a bad thermostat that is stuck open but that is very rare.

The tstats on these are easy to replace. Fairly cheap as well.

I get the same sound through the centre console on my explorer but that only when the colling of the aircon has been on for at least 30 minutes

My '94 F150 did that also, seems I had a small water leak and when I fixed that problem the water sound behind the glove box disappeared.
