Smog pump belt

I have searched this forum with no luck.the only thing that i wanna know is what would happen if i took the belt off of my smog pump and just left the pump on?i live in a state that has no emissions policy.would the truck run better or worse?i have an 82 f-150 with the 302

Well, The problem is that the smog pump injects air into the emmissions system. In some instances that might cause the catalytic converter to overheat as it tries to convert the HC's to CO2 and water.

This is just a thought, I am not truly sure. Is there a pressing need to remove the belt?

I've read these pumps take away a couple of horse power to turn them

depends on the type of air injection system. if it injects into the motor then you might run into egr problems. if it injects into the cat then the cat will melt down.
