confused Steering Box mounting bolts

Hi I'm repairing a damaged chassis where the steering box mounts on a 89 F150. There are four mounting bolt locations for steering box. I have seen both 3 & 4 bolts used. There may be a reason for only using the 3 bolts. Can anyone assist with information.

Re: Steering Box mounting bolts

Some of the steering boxes used were three bolts, jsut depended on the year and truck. The frames were used in the basic up to the sd and motorhome chasis.

Re: Steering Box mounting bolts

there is more than one of us with an F-150 on this forum so yes go ahead and ask any question you might have.
my steering box is a 3 bolt design and i already welded the frame behind mine due to a rather large crack developing there (about 6" long)
