I am thinking of fitting 1X 16inch thermo fan to my 1989 f150. Has anyone had experience in fitting these and is there an advantage in having them compared to the clutch fan that is currently fitted.

The vehicle has air conditioning, should I fit an axtra fan that works when air con. is opperating.

As of yet have had not had any experience at installing them. (Should have by now) but we had a big discussion on this once before. With AC you may need two fans. 351w, a member and active user of the truck section told me that it frees up a fair bit of power so thats an advantage.

2 fans is better, one breaks you still got one working, you will need to have at least 1 fan come on with the a/c for heat exchnage across the condensor at the front.

You can put the 16 behind, and add a 10 in front to run with the A/C if you like will work beautifly, thermo fans will make it nice and queit, as well as free up some power (dont expect huge gains though).

yes i have a 16 inch single on my 86 F-150 and i had to go with a 4 row aluminum rad to keep everything cool enough.
my single fan with AC and auto trans was not enough to keep my cool.
as long as i was cruisin it was fine but as soon as you come to a stop the temp steadily but slowly climbed, this was with the stock 2 row copper rad but as soon as i shelled out a couple hundred more for the alum rad i have no problems.
on a 90+ degree day the fan will run forever but the engine wont overheat even sitting still.
you can figure somewhere between 20-35 hp gain from the loss of the clutch fan depending on which style you have.
i also would suggest going with a dual fan setup if you can afford it but you can setup a single to get the job done like i have.
