Truck getting no fuel from first tank... - Ford Forums

This morning I noticed that my first tank was not working..I do not know what is the problem. The truck seems to get no fuel from the first tank. The tank is full, so I have to use the second tank. Is there a fuse for each tank? Could it be plugged? What can I do instead of taking it to a shop?..

You didn't say what year your truck is, but if it late 80's early 90's there is a fuse on the dual tank system. So check your fuse panel. The fuse for the tanks is on that panel. If you got the glove box owners manual it will tell you the location. I believe this operates a selonoid to switch tanks.

Its 1995 Super Cab....thanks I will check that...I though if the fuse went out, that it would affect both tanks...Right now I can use my second, or back tank...but I will check the fuse....thank you...

I would love to find out what this is too. I have the exact same problem. 1995 XLT. The rear tank works fine, if I switch tanks the fuel guage immediately changes (because the front tank is full) but the truck will kill. It won't start off the first tank either. I haven't done too much troubleshooting yet, I will check the fuses as well. I just wondered if you were able to solve this.

Basicly you have two fuel pumps, Switching Valve "NON ELECTRICAL" this is to prevent the pump from pumping into the other tank. You also have a transfer switch which is a on off on switch which will toggle from tank to tank selecting the tank you want to use. This is electrical.

Question...

Do you hear the fuel pump pumping?

Well after a bit more checking, my problem seems to be a bit more simple than the other guys'. Put gas in the tank! I had just bought the truck for way cheap and when I switched to the front tank, the guage started moving to the Full position. So I just assumed it had fuel, when it actually did not. After putting some in, it does run off that tank just fine. It looks like I do have a problem with that tank properly reading the fuel level (the guage does WAY past full actually). I'll have to have that checked.
