USA: Ford to cut F-150 cost by $1,000 a unit
Ford said on Wednesday it would shave about $US1,000 in costs from its F-150 pickup by the end of 2004, according to Reuters.
The 2004 version of the F-150, Ford's best-selling vehicle and a key driver of its turnaround plan, has faced criticism from analysts for being more expensive to build than previous models, the news agency noted.
"By the end of the 2004 calendar year, we expect to reduce the F-150 costs by about $1,000 a unit when compared to the initial production," Ford CFO Don Leclair told analysts in a conference call, Reuters said.
