i have a 97 f150 4.2 engine has a tapping sound thought it was lower end polished crank and replaced main and rod bearings drove to local mechanic says its in valve train took intake off lifters and push rods look good did not remove cam yet but looking at roller bearing theres no obvious wear rocker arm look ok dont know what else to do trying to keep cost down

did you try adjusting them & how is your oil pressure?

thanks for that i went and pulled the engine turns out to be that i have couple of cracked pistons

yea ok!
you cant polish a crank and replace rod and main bearings without a teardown so you should have checked pistons and rockers etc at that time.
