what is the difference between 4.2 and 4.0 liter engine?

i have a 97 f150 with a bad 4.2 liter engine , i am wondering if i can put a 4.0 in it, and what is the difference between the two?are they the same block?

depends where you are , the 4.0 is normally ohc injected
