I have a 1984 F150 Shortbed Stepside and I'm in the process of making it a little more 'user friendly'. It's not a bad truck but has needed a lot of work.

I've never really done anything like this before and I'm not completely sure what I'm doing so I thought this would be the perfect place to ask for advice.

I want to try and improve the ride as it's a bit rough. I don't do any off-roading and I dont tow anything.

I'm wondering if a new set of shocks would make a significant difference.

And if they would, which are the best ones to get.

Edelbrock and Bilstein seem to be well thought of and the prices are similar but I have no idea which would best or if there is another make which would better suit my needs.

Any advice would be greatly received.

To tell if your truck needs new shocks, push down hard on the bumper and let go. Do it front and back. The truck should go down as you push it and then back up. If it bounces up and down more than twice, you need new shocks. As far as what kind, I think that's like what kind of oil to use...there are many different kinds, and just as many opinions. Honestly, if you need new shocks, any one will be a real improvement to your truck. I have heard good things about the Bilstein, but I can't say that I know myself. I went with the Rancho's because I do quite a bit of off-roading, and I really like the red and white with the matching piston boot. Good luck with your decision.
