wind noise coming from top of winshield

I bought an 05 F150 a couple of months ago and have been grappling with a wind noise at highway speed. The dealer put a piece of duct tape across the top of the windshield where it meets the body of the cab and the noise was gone. They figured the windshield had been replaced and not properly seated, so they reseated it thinking that would fix it, it didn't.

Anyone know how to fix this, it is very annoying. When going down the highway, particularly when you are against a strong head-wind, it gets very loud in the cab to the point where you really have to raise your voice to have a conversation.

Re: wind noise coming from top of winshield

I gather you're not the original owner. There should be NO NEED to use duct tape on a 2005! Tell the dealer they should use those on pre-OBDII vehicles that need it more!

I'd go to a glass installer that specializes in windshields and get their opinion on the matter as if it's a common enough issue I'm sure they'd have a fix; like installing a thicker top weatherstripping in, or perhaps whoever installed it didn't use the proper adhesive on the rubber. There are a lot of possibilities that will take some time to sort out. I've never had any problems with any of my vehicles, even the ones I've bought used with excessive noise from the windshield so I can only refer you to go see a local windshield/glass centre that has extensive experience in this matter. Let us know the outcome!
