Question 7.3L 1999 Camper

Hi all
I have a 7.3 L turbo diesel which has just seized its turbo I have replaced it and all seems to be well. Is there a problem with this turbo( it is 19000 miles old) or should I be looking for any other causes. As I live in the UK there are not many Fords with this engine to get any feed back.

If it only has 19,000 miles on it in four years the turbo may have seized from simple lack of use and all the oil draining out of it. Then you start it up and the turbo spins a few hundred times before the bearings in it get oil. IF I'm right here, the only thing I can think of is to use full synthetic motor oil (diesel rated of course) and that might protect it better.

Seized turbos, besides poor lubrication and the extreme operating temps associated with its design, failing to properly cool it down before shutting the vehicle down is also a major contributor to premature failure. If you've been working the motor hard and have been on the turbo quite a bit, let it idle for 5 minutes or so before shutting it down. This will ensure the turbo is cooled down as much as possible before shutting it off. I guarantee that will extend the life of your turbo.
