Hey guys, hopefully one of you can help us out. Here's the issue.

My dad has a 1994 Ford Econoline E350 with the 460 engine and an automatic trans. The van has about 76,000 miles on it.

The van developed an intermittent miss after sitting for about 8 months. While driving the van will run very rough and miss intermittently. It was like it wasn't taking fuel either. We took it to the local dealership and they have replaced the following.

Mass Air Flow Sensors (3)
Fuel Filter
Fuel Pump
Throttle Position Sensor
Distributor, Cap & Button
Plugs & Wires
Coolant Temp Sensor

The fuel filter and fuel pump fixed the problem with it not taking fuel under acceleration. So that part was fixed, but the intermittent miss is still there. It is like you can't press on the gas to pull a hill or it will just want to cut out.

Here's the kicker, you can unplug the MAF sensor and it will throw a Check Engine Light, and the miss goes away. You plug it back up and the check engine light goes back off and the miss immediately returns.

Anyone out there with any ideas, please let us know. He doesn't want to blow a bunch more money at the dealership thanks for your help in advance.

If the dealer has been told of the problem and hasn't repaired it, they shouldn't keep throwing parts at it. He should ask to see the Service Manager and explain the situation to him.

Did they replace the MAF 3 times?

The MAF was actually done by a local mechanic and has been replaced 3 times thinking that we could have possibly had a bad batch of them or something. They only made him pay for 1 though and they sent the other 2 back. The dealership was grasping at straws and the van has actually been there 2 times for the same problem and not fixed either time. This past time they pretty much just gave up and told us to come pick it up that they didn't want to deal with it anymore, and my dad didn't want to spend anymore money on it there anyway.

If anyone has any ideas on what it might be, i have searched quite a bit on google and there are other people with the same problems, just no one seems to know the answer to fix it. Thanks for your help!

I'm guessing no codes were present? If there were, did they let you know what they were?

No codes were present, the only thing it will do to throw a CEL is if you unplug the MAF sensor, and thats when the miss goes away... but the second you plug it back up, the CEL goes off and the miss comes back...
