Ok guys, thanks for reading and I hope one of you can help me... Here is the deal, I have a 1999 E150 Van 5.4l engine. about 3000 miles ago I replaced the transmission with an used transmission. My old tranny was just not going anywhere so I got an used one and installed it, well like i said that was 3000miles ago... After I installed the tranny there was a time maybe after 200-300 miles that the transmission became weak, I was expecting this to happen as a result of fluid "spreading" so I added more fluid and the problem was gone, by the way that same week the temperature was of 90+. from then on everything was good, very good... until about 2 weeks ago... The tranny started to shake, so I checked the fluid it showed too much so i decided to drain some of the fluid (3 quarts) then checked the fluid level it was low so i added 1 quart back and we are back to normal level, BUT now the transmission shakes when i have it in gear (any gear), it does not disengage when i have the break all the way down, like at a red light I have to shift to neutral to keep the van from shaking... I am all out of options and very disappointed with myself,,, Any ideas??? Thank you

Sounds mure like an engine miss. Take it to Auyozone and they'll pull codes for free. The light doesn't have to be on for codes to be there.

Thanks Bert, I now little about engine-transmissions so I have to ask... How would the engine miss make the tranny shake and why the shakes stop when the I have the van in Neutral or park?, Shouldn't the shakes of an engine miss stay on regardless of the gear the transmission is on?

P>S> one more very stupid question... when at a red light with D gear on and fully stopped with break all the way down, Does the driveshaft stop spinning or does it just slow down? ... reason i ask is I could have soemone have the van in drive while I look under it to see if the gear is still engaged (driveshaft spinning at a full stop, gears not disengaging).

The driveshaft doesn't rotate until the rear wheels rotate.

When it's in gear, the engine has a load on it (it's trying to 'go')...so the miss is more noticeable than when it's in neutral with no load.
