Hi everyone,

I have a 1995 E250 that I picked up at an auction. The van didn't come with keys, re-cuts are not available and I know that Ford can sell me a new ignition cylinder to put in the truck with my proof of my ownership. I also am aware that to remove the old cylinder you should have the key and depress the retaining pin to slide it out.

My question is can I simply drill at the retaining pin underneath until it clears the assembly and then be able to turn the assembly to the "ON" position and slide it out? It looks to me that the tumblers are the only thing that allows that pin to move.

A lock shop can usually make a key to fit the cylinder you have. That way, the doors and ignition are the same. Drilling in that spot would be tough because the material around the hole is softer making it hard to drill. Call a lock shop and see what they suggest.

$250 is what they suggested but ya might be worth it given I will need to put out almost $150 in parts to do it myself. Thnx.

Locksmith is the way to go, but first check the glove box in case the previous owner put the key tags in there. Also, if the owners manual is in the glove box, look to see if the dealer wrote the key code in there when the vehicle was sold.
