93 Probe Cam issue
Hey guys,
I just bought a 93 Ford Probe. 2.0L I4, 5 speed, non A/C, plain jane model. I went to look at it and it didn't have spark. We dragged it home and started trying to diagnose the issue. We found a plug that was unplugged that we assume goes into the ignition box. (My dad and I are into old school muscle and this new tech stuff is all new to us so bare with me.) We plugged it in, turned it over and she fired right up. The issue is now that it idles like crap and barely wants to stay running. We cleaned the MAF, new air filter, and also cleaned the Idle air control valve and EGR valve. Still idles like crap, but better than before. We then pulled the valve cover off and noticed that the cams were a tooth off. We are guessing that this is 70% of our problem. We have done research and we found that on one end of the cams there is a slot to slide a piece of metal or whatever to keep the cams in place. On mine the slots are pointing straight up and down instead of pointing at each other. My question is that can the cam gears be put on 90 degrees off? Or is this normal?
Sorry for the novel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Keith
