Re: 95 Probe lost excelleration at 3k RPM then...
I did some testing today.
I cleaned the plug leads by the spark plugs and they had some dirt and grease on them.
I started the car and kept it in neutral. I revved the engine and it was sluggish like before. I let off the gas and did it again. low and behold it the engine was revving normally. I took it for a spin and it was like new, but a quarter mile down the road the car lost most of it power again.
I pulled over and checked all the spark plugs again, but, this time, when I pulled the 4th spark plug (the one closest to the driver side) this blue rubber piece came up that was wierd. I say weird because the way it attached to the end of the spark plug lead was not condusive to electrcity. this piece would have kept the sparks from the plug from hitting the metal end of the lead. Also, this peice was not the other plugs. I just took it off.
I started back down the road and the car was back to normal again. it even was doing better than before. By that I mean that, in each gear, the speed of the car was greater at the respective RPM. however, to my dispmay the car lost power again. When i got it home i turned it off to check to see if the spark plug was the ultimate culprit by not messing with the spark plugs. So I just restarted the car and revved it in neutral, as i had done before, and it was normal. Normal meaning I put on the gas and the RPM meter went up steadely and I held it at 3.5k RPM for about 15sec and then released the gas slowly and the meter came down slowly as well.
Maybe it has something to do with the spark plugs, or leads, or I saw a crack in the hose leading from the air intake (after the air filter) to the air manafold (not sure if it's call the manafold. its the air piece that connects to the engine). However, just knowing physics I would say its a compression issue.
