96 GT, ignition key warning, no key in - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

Hey everybody,

Just joined, glad to find the forum. Hope to find and contribute some help gained over the years!

This just started today: Normally, if I left the key in the ignition, and opened the door, the chime went off. Today, with the key in my hand, outside the car, when I opened the door, the chime started.

Both of the switches in the doorframes work fine - it's just that, somehow, the car thinks the key is ALWAYS in the ignition.

Any thoughts?

The wires to the key switch must have gotten shorted together or the switch got stuck. Here's the diagram for it.

You're welcome. Those warning chimes and buzzers bug me. They'd be even worse if I didn't leave the key in and it buzzed. I disconnect all but the headlight on warning. I always use my seat belt and never leave my key in.
