Ok check this stuff out.

Its the truth i swear.

On my way back from the doctors i stopped at a local smoke shop for some cancer sticks.

Next door is a hole in the wall tv repair shop.(now i dont mean tv as in trans vestite)

So i go in to see what kind of crap they had for sale.

I look around right fast and ask the guy if he has any pc's for sale.He tells me no.Also no monitors (im looking for a 25" or larger moniter)

So i scan the shelves better this time and alas! i find a lonely tower sitting covered in dust on the top shelf.

So i ask the guy whats wrong with it and he runs in the back to ask the boss.(jaba the hut i suppose) and comes back with a "we dont know"

So i ask to look at it,he takes it down and slaps it on the counter.

I crack the case and peek to find..

Intrel PII bored and Processor (strange large reqtangular processor)

Sound blaster 32 card
Some mediocore video card
3 slot 168 pin 133mhz ram slots

64 meg ram
3gig hard drive
235wat power supply
56k modem
ethernet card

so i ask him how much?
dude goes in the back and comes back with "what will you give me"?

i said $40.00
he said ok

i pic it up tommorow.

i now have the pc i needed for my 6000 MP3's i have.
I wanted one to hook up to the stereo so i had music all the time.

When i get it tommorow i will take it apart and give a proper hardware list so as to see what i scored for a measly $40.00

new hard drive and some other small things and ill be set for an MP3 pc

Sweet, yeah thats a sweet deal considering that an MP3 player for your stereo system costs much more!

40 bucks for a pentium II!? BTW: They call the long rectangular processor a Slot 1 processor.... Intel tried them out for awhile and didnt like them, so now they are back to the tried and true Socket 7 which is shaped like a square and mounts flat right onto the motherboard.. way to go!

Nice find, maybe I need to start searching old hole in the wall tv stores. I once found an IBM computer in the trash. It was just the case and motherboard though. I still have it setting in my closet. Aslo found a 15" Sony Trinitron monitor in the trash and I am currently using it!

um, the pIII and celeron were initially slot 1 as well.

the new format is not socket 7 but socket 370. socket 7 will take the pIII/celeron but you may not be able to start up your pc. the p4 takes a different socket altogether.

merlin, good score man. sounds like the components can take some upgrades, especially the HD, but for $40 you stole it! :s5 is the pII short and long or tall and long? if the processor is really tall and it looks like a large square, then you could have the xeon version of the pII. that would be very nice.

When i get off my lazy ass and get dressed ill go get it and bring it back to take some pics of it.I wanted to tear it apart and write down every single part for it so i knew what it had.

Yeah im hoping it will be in good shape so,,,we will see today.

But i do need dos so i can install windows on this stupid pc....

after i calm down (im all fired up) i will show you the pics i took of the pc after i took the whole thing apart.

did i mention i need dos?

here are some pics i took as i took it apart.

I then went and bought 256k of memory (it has pc100)
And a cd-rom for it as well.

I did not buy a hard drive for it as
1.all the ones i saw were 5400 rpm :tdown:
2.i wanted to make sure it needed to be replaced first.

The HD is a 2.35gig hard drive.I will no doubt keep it as this is just an MP3 player pc and will buy the 80gig i need.

I am buying another stick of memory tommorow,,prob 256k

Im looking into an adapter to put an 8-900Mhz processor in it this weekend.

I spent $40.00 for the PC
$15.00 for a keyboard/mouse and all other cables (at the Boeing surplus store)
$29.00 for the CD-Rom
$19.00 for the 128megs of ram

This pic shows the slot for the processor

after taking apart and cleaning it i noticed that it has a 235wat power supply (ugh)

3 slots for 168 pin pc100 memory

and usb ports

the only problem i found is that the hard drive was blank!! thats it...nothing,,no DOS or an OS

problem is i dont have DOS but i got all the Windows except for 2000

so if one of you guys can help me with a copy of DOS some how....i would appriciate it.
