I've found when I apply relatively strong brakes (although I wouldn't imagine anywhere close to ABS territory) the red brake light comes on. Then just turns off again when I've come to a stop. There's no strange noises & everything works fine just odd I would think the light comes on?? Suggestions.

You should check the brake fluid level, it might be low.

All brake fluid levels are fine so I'll get my mechanic to take a look. I would have thought the brake light is only hooked up to the hand brake so maybe there's a switch somewhere that's being touched/set off during the forward movement of the car under braking?? Although I guess if there's some kind of error with the ABS that may cause the light to come on also.

I think you'll find the fluid needs topping up, as Stacy says. The sensor in the resovoir is positioned to be very sensitive to dive & cornering forces.
May also signal that your pads are getting worn.

Got the brakes serviced & it would have been (as suggested) a fluid level issue. Although the fluid level seemed ok it must have been that touch too low & triggered the light. Thanks for the feedback.
