I didn't know if this was a place that I could post maint/mod etc questions or if those type of questions should still be referred to probetalk and this forum was just to talk about the club and stuff like that....I'm going to post my question here and I'm not suppose to just leave me a message and I'll delete it or I'm sure you all omnipotent and omnipresent and omni...etc Forum gods will kindly delete it for me.

Here's the question if it's "legal" if it's not than close our eyes!!

I just got new VCG's (got oil in spark plug wells), pheno spacers, and a whole bunch of green (high temp) paint. My plan is to stop the leaking of oil into my spark plug wells, gain a few extra hp with pheno's, and add a little "flair" to my car by painting my manifold and VC while they're off....yes I know i'm still not to the question yet...I'm working on it.....back ground info is of the essence :-)

I want to knock out all the tasks that should be done while of got this stuff off....the things I know to do:

-TB Gasket
-Vaccum Hoses
-Drench the thing in Carb Cleaner

What I don't know what to do:
-Probably lots

What I'm wondering about:
-Somebody on probetalk told me to replace the friction spring on the rear camshaft....opinions?? What am I looking at for this part $$??

Anything else I should do??

Sorry for the long post, but I'm board and excited about getting my car back (It has been at the shop getting ACT II put in, while at the shop it got broke into {smashed back window} and stole approx 2G's worth of lighting and stereo equip) from the shop and getting some "wrench time" in on it.

Yes, this is a good place to post that question - this forum is WAY more laid back than PT, so no worry about put-downs or smart-ass comments from Mods here.

On to your questions - yes, we'll help you with the intakemanifold and VCG's. We'll have a 'mod' day at my house sometime in early August when we'll help a bunch of people install a bunch of stuff on their cars - you are welcome to come by - I have a big shop in the back yard.


If you want to replace your hoses, do it with good silicone ones - Hose Techniques makes a set of colored replacement vacuum hoses for our cars - check out their website at www.hosetechniques.com a full vacuum hose set (and others) is around $90 so that is very good.



As far as the rear friction spring on the cam - don't bother unless you are rebuilding youur valve train (top end of the motor) - it is a factory defect, and most 93-95 PGTs have it. For issued a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) advising of the problem, but stopped short of a recall because it is a LOT of work to replace that. It doesn't cause any damage, it is just a little annoying ticking sound at the top left of your engine (if you sit in front of the car). THis is different from the lifter noise.

Yep, probably the first week of August - we'll see how many people are getting stuff to install, so I'll check at the Dyno Day.
