Hey guys I bought a 94 probe gt with a 96 v6 in it. It ran good and i took it for a test drive and got on the gas and it backfired sorta and died. It wont start now and I am pretty sure the timin belt is still on. It has no spark. The guy that had it before me had some shop put in the newer v6 cause his old one was no good. I am very mechanicly inclined just need some ideas. Thanks

Does it crank evenly, like a normal cranking, just won't start? Could be wiring, sensors etc. If it's not the same wiring harness, they might have cobbled it up and something opened up from the engine torque. Could also be the crankshaft speed sensor.

Ya seems to crank fine. It just has no spark the harness is all intact it seems like. Its just wierd that i was running fine then stopped. if the timing belt breaks or falls off do they still turn over? I didnt think it would.

I dont think the timing belt broke cause it cranks smooth and that would not make sense cause the valves would not open and close so it would not sound right. Ok here is the deal. I checked and i have no spark. I checked the coil and it has power coming in. Blk/pink wire. And the coil in the distrubitur has power in it when the key is turned on and when cranking. But it did not have power coming out of the cap. I bought a new on and still no power out of the cap. Now the other plug that is next to the one that goes into the coil, what is that for? It has power to it in a couple diff volts ranges on the wires. This thing has me all messed up. I really am confused all i need is some spark and it will fire up. GRRRR Help!

You would not but chance have the voltage for the wires that are supposed to have voltage, and when they should have voltage. Such as key on or off. I have a feeling the igniter is toast.

That is the 2.5l engine? It doesn't have a distributor just a rectangular coil?

Ya its the 2.5. Everything is in the distributer.

Does the rotor turn when you crank it?

Yes, it does so that means timing belt is in place. I'm thinking new distributor. BAH thats sucks does anyone know how to rebuild them? I am short on cash and lookin for the cheapest way to fix it.
