whenever i stop at a stop light or stop sign, my car just dyes when i press the gas when i try to go when it turns green. the car lights and the cd player are still on but the car is off

Ours will idle for a while then shut off. Or if I give it gas (In neutral) and hold it at a certain RPM it will stay there for like 3 secs then drop to 1RPM then go back up to the RPM I hold it at......When it is dropping and I let off the gas...it shuts off
