hello, im new to the board, just last week i bought a 1993 Probe GT, Teal Mist CC, 5 speed/ leather, and what not. I think i need a new clutch, and from what ive heard their not cheap nor easy to replace. When i shifted fast between 1st and 2nd, it seemed like it was slipping at about 5500-6000 rpms...there was no bark or anything from the tires. if you guys could give me some advice, or info on new clutches, and how hard/ expensive they are to work on...that would be wonderful!
Another question...My intake manifold/ head is extremely dirty, ive tried everything i can to clean it up but nothigns worked...if you know what im talking about, please let me know how to make it look nice,
last question...have any of you probe owners experienced a mad squeek around the hatch?...it drives me nuts!...well thanks for the advice!...

Hey man, I know a little bit about what you're talking about. The whole clutch slipping out of 1-2 shift is your tranny most likely. You really might need to get a new one, and they aren't cheap at all... You can get a used one for about $1800... but they are not very reliable, or you can get a rebuilt for about $3g's and a Jasper one for $4,000. I've got an ATX so I don't know if that's exactly right on... But it's just a thought. And the whole trunk rattle crap. I know exactly what you are talking about there! I've also got a 93 GT. It sounds like a damn bird is chirping away back near the passenger side of my hatch. I have no clue what it's all about as of yet, but I'll find it out, because I'm going to have to start keeping some asprin in my car if not. Actually, its not that bad, but it's definitely enough to annoy you. Good luck with the whole clutch/tranny deal... And if you find out the chirp noise in the hatch, drop me a line or to. Later on!:s3
If it is your clutch slipping, then i'd suggest going in for a clutchmasters stage 3. Available at www.rr-racing.com (rafi's site). Very reliable guy. And he's got deals on flywheels and stuff alongwith a clutch kit. Should run you right about $400. Plus installation charges. Lets say abt $700 is what you are looking at.
Well, i looked and the stage 3 with the fidanza flywheel combo is $640. so add installation to it. Or you could do the stage 1 with flywheel for about $530.
OH NO...i really didnt want to know if it could be my trans...thats a chunk of change...im only 16, and i dont ahve a job...hopefully its only my clutch..if anyone knows how to make fast shifts with this disability please help me out!
thanks guys

I see you are from Detroit. I would suggest visiting www.probesport.com/forums and in there, going to MIPOC forum and posting for a certain Mark Kruger in Ypsilanti. He should be able to help you change it out. Oh wait, he's got his garage closed for winter. Ok, you might wanna post there for a Ryanpzz from Chesterfield. I know he's free in Dec. And he does a good job!
I would have to agree, its most likely clutch. Standard tranny's don't really "Slip" per say, they either go bad or they work... I just had my clutch replaced (stock clutch w/ 140k miles) for about 400 bucks (clutch and labor) at a local shop here. If you do end up needing a tranny, they are wayyyy cheaper than automatic transmissions. I have a buddy who's selling me his 97gts motor w/ 45k miles for $850, wanted to give me his tranny for $250. You can usually get a used manual tranny for ~400-500 and they're not that hard to drop in with a friend who knows what they're doing. As far as shifting fast with a slipping clutch, its just not gonna happen. Until you can afford to replace the clutch I wouldn't recommend trying to shift fast at high rpm's, let them drop down a little before u engage so it doesnt slip so much, you don't want it getting any worse too quick, cuz then it really starts to suck.
Exacly the same thing is happening to me. Shift at 7000 rpm, by the time I engage the clutch, shift, disengage the clutch, they only drop down to 6000. So then I try to slip it which gives me a bit of a speed boost. I got it bark once, although it was a little wet.
