New Clutch

I called Ford Australia and a standard clutch kit (comprising 3 parts) is a whopping AU$1450. I could import one from the US a lot cheaper but from what I've seen they're not genuine Ford parts but 3rd party (often performance) clutches.
Would the US clutches fit straight into Australian model Probe's? (I have a '94) You can get just the clutch plate - typically the part that wears out - would these fit into the existing clutch plate housing?? I know the 'performance' comment will/could make the answer more complex (with flywheel changes & god knows what) but is there an easy answer to this?

Ah yes buying Probe parts from FORD is latin for ripping your wallet out thru your pecker I will give you an example:
Set of ignition leads from FORD $400 from Mazda $150 from MOTOR SPARES $160 so I bought the Mazda ones
Dizzy cap from FORD $200 from MOTOR SPARES $60
Rotor button from FORD $90 from MOTOR SPARES $12
And something special , spark plugs from FORD $2.80ea from MOTOR SPARES $3.00ea it was the only thing cheaper
Now getting back to your clutch I can not see why the US one will not fit the AUS models or you can try a few clutch places directly or give this place a go if they are near you I have found them to be fantastic in price and service MOTOR SPARES

Re: New Clutch

Thanks very much. I'll give Motor Spares a shot to compare prices...otherwise importing from the US seems the best alternative. Cheers

Re: New Clutch

Ordered new colour coded performance leads from Probesport via the net along with kick plates, all arrived safely with little a little delay & comparable to the Mada prices above. Will definately be looking at the stage 2 or 3 clutches from the US when the time comes.
