I am looking at buying a '93 Probe GT with a recently replaced engine with 30k miles on it. One concern I have is that the oil pressure gauge fluctuates with throttle position/RPM. On many vehicles this is a *BAD THING*. Is this a problem if it happens on the Probe, or is it nothing to worry about?

How much does the gauge fluctuate ? Could be the oil sending unit connection needs cleaning up. As long the proper amount of oil is in your engine it should be ok.

Yes I know of an MX6 that does the same..We have just pulled engine appart to rebuild to take plenty of turbo boost and fit block deck strengthener,pistons, rods etc..
Though for the last 100.000 Klrs this was happening, the bearing etc are in EXCELLENT condition..The engine had 320.000 klms on it...

I would say its a sender unit problem ???

I replaced my oil sending unit twice within the last year. At best with the current FORD part (I was using aftermarket OEM spec before) it reads between the M and A in the NORMAL range. When idling, it sits just below the L in NORMAL.

It's fine for the 93's gauges to appear to read a little low. If the gauge is barely registering, then you might want to consider replacing the unit. If you go with the Ford part, you pay more, but at least around here you get a 12 month warranty on the part.

They didn't take my mileage down, so I got a full 12 months in that apsect. The reason why the part is so expensive for the Probes, is because its a console part on the dash.
