confused probe keeps dieing

I own a 93 Probe St, 6 cylinder, 5 spd car. It all started when I was headed to Pekin. I was going on the interstate about 75 mph and all of a sudden I lost my engine power; it cut out. I coasted to a restaurant and called for a ride. I tried starting it a couple times and it finally started. Driving home, it died three or four times on the way home every time I went like over 30 mph it would die.
I work at a car dealer and asked some mechanics there what it might be. They said it sounded like a fuel pump issue, so we tried a new fuel pump and a tune-up, and neither one of them have worked. We even did a spark plug test on it , and it still has spark. Every time we rev the engine up to around 3000 rpms the engine will just cut out. All the lights and other electrics works; just the motor cuts out. It doesn't stumble at all, it just plain cuts out.
The problem is leaving us all stumped. If anyone has any ideas on what the problem could be I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Re: probe keeps dieing

Hi
Did you have it scanned for codes? If you've ruled out fuel and ignition systems, it could be a TPS issue. Check the voltage coming out of it as you press on the accelerator with engine off/ ignition on. It should be from around 1volt (closed) to 4.5 (fully open) if memory serves. Press slowly while monitoring voltage and check for sudden spikes or open circ while doing the sweep test. cheers

Re: probe keeps dieing

Hi,

Sounds like your disty is about to crap out. I have had a similar incident happen to me; ended up being the disty-faulty ignitor. If your not getting any codes...it's hard to diagnose your issue(s)...especially from my couch

Are you having any overheating issues? Our disti's will cut out around 230 degrees...causing the car to die. If you would like to learn more about your problem (and your car), you should check out ProbeTalk.com.

Hope that helps...a little,

Re: probe keeps dieing

Hey guys Im not sure if this is the same but I will ask anyways.

This probe we just picked up starts fine and idle fine for about3-5 minutes, then shuts off. Doesn't do it all the time though. Also while started if i raise the RPM's to about 4rpms(doesn't have to be that, can be any amount) and I hold it there it will stand there for couple seconds then it will drop to 1RPM or below and then raise back up to where I had it. If I let off the gas when its dropping it will shut off.......
