Quick Question on Changing the Belts........... - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

I am getting ready to chang my belts soon.... they are really squeking and they need to be replaced, heres my question (there are a few of them)

1. What needs to be taken off inorder to replace them
2. What belts do i need, like whats the name for both of them.
3. Should i go ahead and replace the bearings or whatever they are called (the things the belts rid on.??
4. If so what is the name for them and where to get them.
5. Last but not least is it worth doing it my self and how much time am i expection to use? or should i just take it to a shop and have them do it??

Thanx to whoever replies, i appriciate the help, i just need some info on how to do it before i do it... and i am pretty mechanically inclined... if that helps any :)

Are you going to be replacing the drive belts and timing belt? I recently replaced just the drive belts. Go with Napa Auto parts. Stay away from cheaper places like Kragen or Grand Auto and even pep boys. Took me about 25 mins or so to replace the belts. The old ones were in pretty good shape, but starting to hollar. Make sure you have plenty of light to work with also. Good luck.

I am just doing the drive belts right now... is the timing belt hard to do?? im not really wanting to mess with that though... but could you give me some guidlines in replacing the drive belts... and i was thinking about getting them from auto zone.. what do you think and how much would they cost... thanx man,

Not sure about auto zone...never bought anything from them. I just removed the covers from the belts and got in there. you have more room to work with in a 4 than a 6 cyl. One belt cost me like 18 bucks, and another one was 21ish. I can get the name of the place from my mechanic, since he ordered it. He orders from reputable shops with high quality parts. The timing belt is a whole other can of worms. It takes a good shop a few hours to replace one. Not something Id try on my own.
