G'day,

I've got a mate chasing around for a 03 model XR6 Ute. The only extra he wants is a hard-top for around $1500. Apart from that she can be stock0. I went to be my local dealer & they priced on for around $33 700 (with the hard-top). Which i thought was to hight! Should i be looking around the $32 000 or even less?

Well you can get a 04 model for $1200 more then the 03. I really dont think it is worth getting a 03 model for that price difference. It has lost that in deprecation all ready, prolly more like $2000 - $2500!

Have a browse over at www.carsales.com.au - lots of dealers in there for you to look at. There are some second hand XR6 utes in there that are around the some price. You might be able to get a couple of extra grand off of them for a low kms example.

I know I learnt a BIG lesson when it come to buying a new car! With so many new cars being sold, resale value is generally much lower than payout value for loans and leases. I know unless the new car market changes, I'll be looking at 1 year old cars for my next purchase. Although that said, comparitively, the falcons are holding their value reasonably well. To stop my rambling - investigate used cars as well if he isn't already.
