Re: 10 Year Magna Warranty???

I cant see this bringing mitsubishi any long term gains in sales.
They will sell alot of cars straight away but then people will keep their car for longer.
The average Magna owner might upgrade to the newset model every 3 years. But now that same person will think why should i upgrade when i still have 7 years warranty left?

Re: 10 Year Magna Warranty???

Id upgrade if i was spending 1 day a week getting my car fixed under warranty ;-)
My dad had a magna(late 90's) before he got the XR6T, it burnt equal amounts of oil and fuel like a two stroke, had the turning circle of the titanic (after it hit the iceberg), had the acceleration of dead goat sliding down a hillside and ate alternators on a yearly basis.

10 years of magna ownership is a punishment, not a benefit.

Interesting concept of such a long warranty. If a Mitsu can waste a Falcon or a Commodore around the first corner, I think this is the only way I can give them credit for it.

The thing I can't quite get my head around though, is Mitsu give you 130,000 or five years, yet only another 30,000 to stretch to the next 5 years. That, to me is, stooged!

Re: 10 Year Magna Warranty???

I think its a good idea, and shows (despite their other issues) that Mitsu has strong faith in their NEW products. Who cares about what if on a Sigma or 90's Magna. What if Ford had a similar warranty on 90's Falcons? Probably lose $5000 on each car for head gasket repairs! It's all what if what if..

What are the intended markets? Fleets? No because they already hit the distance limit within standard warranties anyways.

The average yearly distance is around 18000kms I think. So that effectively makes the complete warranty to 7.2 years (so 5 years is the limit) and for the engine/trans 8.8 years to reach 160000kms.

I believe it will draw in the family market who really aren't as one-eyed as fordfourms or ls1 members and just view the car as a means of family transport. It's all about enforcing customer confidence in their purchase. And with a transferrable warranty sure won't kill the resale value at all.

Ford has been offering the 5 year warranty now for a month or so (is this a limited offer though?) and no-one has said bah humbug about its level of servicing warranty claims five years down the track! Hell some of you BA owners can't even get warranty approval on several month old cars!

It's good to see a local manufacturer take the step and be willing to show faith in its product. Anything that helps push manufacturers towards offering a better overall service has got to be good for drivers of cars.

Dan..

Re: 10 Year Magna Warranty???

The beauty of it is:

Mitsu most likely won't be in Australia in ten years from now anyway. So all these suckers who own a mitsu for 10 years will get SFA.

As for the Ford warrenties I extended my 3 year warranty on my 97 I6 EL to five years. It still cost be $2500 for a blown head gasket in 98! They said they replaced everything inc new head. Really all the did was get a c/o head. I know this as I've replaced the gasket again since. The warranty wasn't worth the paper it was written on.

Re: 10 Year Magna Warranty???

If the Mitsubishi plant in Australia closes does that mean that we won't have Mitsubishi cars in Australia?

I pity those poor fools who go out and buy Nissans and Subarus because their warranties are worthless!! Becuase the cars are imported!!

Perhaps if Mitsubishi Australia closes doors then Mitsubishi Japan will void all warranties. I don't see it happening. That would be a Page Ranking nightmare unless they pull out of the Australian market altogether and then don't care.

Maybe they will pull out of Australia. Ten years is a long time, who would have thought ten years ago that we would have had the AU disaster, and the world would see another Bush as US president fighting another war in the Middle East. Does present day Bush have a son in politics? LOL..
