1000 mb CDR's. Is it true?

I have heard that you can get 1000 mb cdr discs. Is this true?

Can you get any larger?

Where do you get the 1000 mb cdrs or larger size from?

How much do they cost?

thanks

I could be wrong but ive never heard of any CD being over 700Mb. Im pretty sure you need a DVD for 1gig and over. Why bother anyway? 1 CD-R is less than 1 dollar, im sure you could afford 2 CD-R or even 1 CD-RW

Yeah, biggest I know of is 800 MB or 90 mins. If you want more space just fork out for a DVD burner. Not much nowadays.

Why bother? Because of space. Why have 12 cds when you can get the same amount of music on 8?

The dvd burner is the best way to go for sure. But the cds are for my in car mp3. It doesnt read dvd. I just got it awhile back, so ill be keeping it for a time. But yeah, next head unit ill get will be dvd for sure.

thanks for the info.

Re: 1000 mb CDR's. Is it true?

There have been 1600MB CD-R's around since 1994. They just haven't been publically available. They still aren't - the copany (or maybe companies) who have rights to them seem to think the public aren't ready for such a thing yet.

Then of course there's the whole "Quad-Phase" blue laser stuff coming out.. which is basically normal CD storage x 4. Same applies for DVDs. 4.7GB x 4... 18.8GB DVD-Rs anyone?

Re: 1000 mb CDR's. Is it true?

Hell.. there have been 400GB+ HDDs since 1992.. some crystal design or something, theoretically allows unlimited storage space - bought by a company that may not even exist anymore 12 years ago, and stashed away never to see the light of day for a few decades. Then one day they'll decide "Ok, lets release this..."

If that crystal design is the one I'm thinking of, the main problem is that the reading/indexing technology for it is too slow, i think? could be the writing, lol. If you're really curious check this weeks new scientist, or was it last weeks? :->
