how dangerous are stanley knifes, i reckon more than most power tools

i wanna know some more stories of what injuries they have given or any close calls

me - ive had a few, prob around 4,

once trying to cut open a thick plastic 10L bottle to use as an oil pan, was cuttin with the blade below my pinky and pushing downwards, i shoulda been wriggling it aswell, and then in an instant blade broke off and lodged in the plastic bottle, my hand continuing quickly in that direction and sliced me right on my wrist, blood came oozing out on the kitchen floor and all on my way to get tissues.
i thought i had fully cut my wrist badly, got "rushed" to hospital by my frantic mum, ended up being a cut only ~8mm long and about 2/3mm deep. they used superglue stuff over it and it was all ok.

i was really luck i didnt cut myself any worse, very close call indeed

at school, stuck a scalpel in my thumb requiring 3 stitches. first thing teacher said was "ahhh look what youve done, ur gonna make that scalpel go all rusty now" hehe, not a bad response

im sure there are many worse than these.

one of my aims with this thread was to also warn others of how much care u really need to take with em,

HAHA, well I'm not sending you any money.
I've cut myself with them atleast 20 times but i use them every (work) day and have for 8 years now so not to often.
Some people we employ are terrible with them. I swear they do it just to go home :)

not a stanley knife, but i do know of a certain forums member that nearly cut his finger off with a pocket knife at a forums camping trip...!

pocket knife blades should not be pushed on without having them locked into position hey steve

Never had a problem with a stanley knife but I've had some wicked cuts from cheap ass computer cases.

Never really had issues with stanley knives, except when I used one to cut my finger nails once.

Had bigger issues with much bigger knives. And car parts.

I stuck a screwdriver through my hand once. I know someone who sliced their hand open on a knife, and required microsurgery to repair tendons and stuff. And I know someone who slipped on pallet racking at work and did the same thing. It got him 3 months off work though. Luckily both people regained full use of their hands though.

Haven't cut myself with a Stanley knife too much, but mashed the finger next to my thumb on my right hand with a hammer, nearly severing it at the middle.
Now the first knuckle doesn't go any more.

FREAKY!!!! I got one the other day - sliced my knuckle down to the bone Mum wanted me to get it stitched, but I had too much pride!!

It's still healing and I can't bend it properly :(
