190Kms on EL too high? need advice b4 2morrow!

Hey all,

I have the opportunity to buy a 96 el with 190kms on the clock....to me this seems a tad high....my 91 eb only had 130 isk kms.

Is 190 kms too many? what sort of things are likely to go wrong with it with this sort of mileage?

Need to know asap, since I am checkin the car out 2 morow

thanks

Yes and no, depends on how the car has been treated etc. If it were during the week Id beable to get the service history looked up for you if you sent me the VIN number.

Ive just bought an EB with 150k and the main selling point for me was the fact it had been serviced according to the book and had every service receipt.

Cars that have had a hard time or are just wearing out have the used car feel. Cars that have been looked after still feel nice and tight. I guess you need to compare a few cars.

190km should be ok because the 6's run for ever if treated ok. Listen to the motor, take particular attention if it sounds like its rough etc. We recently compared 2 EF's at a meet one with 200km of thrashing and one with 120km sedate driving and the difference was quite noticible.

Hope this helps

this mught give you an idea of what it would be worth btw
my ex gf sold her EL Gli wagon not that long ago i dont nkow how much she got for it but the yard sold it for 9990

it was a 97 model, and had 225,000 on it and it still felt nice as to drive.

my olds bought a 96 EL futura wagon in late 01 that had 96,000 on it for $16k

as karl said the kms doesnt really matter its all how the car has been treated, and weather its ben serviced regularly look at the kms taxis rack up in their lives

Mine has 230,000km (EFII), and it's been serviced every 10,000km religiously (parents car, bought it off them, did 5-6 trips a fortnight of ~150km return, all country driving).

Still nice and tight, just needed a going over, and replacement of a few things - shockers, boot gas struts (the ones to keep it open), steering wheel (the old one was wearing through a bit from sun damage), and was due for a fuel filter. Bought a gregory's manual, and did it all myself.

That's about all. That and $90 worth of Meguiars paint cleaner, prep and wax to make it look like new :)

well...

didnt get around to looking at the el with 190k, but looked a few el's - all with kms a bit less and nothing really turned me on.

I'll prob check out the 190k el this week - i spoke to the guy again and he said it was a sales reps car in its past life so that is bit of a turn off, but we'll see.

did see a 1996 EF xr6 advertised with recaro front seats, tints, 17s, lowered for $8900!!!!! - it was gone b4 we got to it- jus goes to show there are some deals to be had!

If you buy a car with all the goodies, lowered, non standard diff etc, you can bet that 95% of them have had a flogging.

Best to buy a normal looking car and then do it up if you want to. The chances of it being flogged are probably under 50%.

Happy hunting.
