Anyone have any new info besides the BON articles on the redesigned 03 model stangs? Latest is that they're testing a 3.9L V8 for the stang. Don't bow your head in disgust till we see the numbers though :D. If Audi can get 360 hp out of a 4.2L, then at least 300hp/280tq is possible. I plan on buying one.
Thoughts! Suggestions! POST ANY SPY PHOTOs. No one knows what it looks like yet.
I hear it'll be built on the Lincoln LS platform with the T-bird and the possible Ford 49, or whatever they'll call it. The current platform is that same Fox one from '79, and they want a newer platform. Any bigger motors possible? I agree that anything is possible in terms of output from that 3.9L V8. They oughta toss a blower on there, like the Lightning. That'd get 'em 300 ponies easy - alone with few mods I believe.

i have herd that the Stang will be based on the new T-bird platform. and i have herd for the past year or so that a new 5.0 version of the modular engine is coming to the Mustang with the new styling. i think it is more in Ford style to stay with bigger cubes (bigger than the 3.9) in the Mustang. i have also herd that the 5.0 would run about 300hp. maybe the 3.9 V-8 will replace the 3.8 V-6. one can only hope.
Word is base Stangs will have 215 hp, 3.0L. Duratec? Yamahammered? Who knows, but BON has specs on a 3.0L and 4.0L base V6 engines. They will get rid of the 3.8L, which in at least it's last form (190hp base Stang) was a good performer but loved to get new head gaskets.
If it is a 5.0L, it'll probably be a OHV or (most likely) SOHC with probably 300-320hp. The Cobra still stands as a DOHC 5.0L with 360-385hp.
I need to start putting money into my piggy bank. :D

Yeah the new T-bird and the LS are on the same platform, along with the Jag S-type. I hope they build that new 5.0! "5.0" just sounds better than "4.6" doesn't it?

Yeah but the underpinnings date back to 1979. I'm sure the body is all new, but some of the basic body parts in the floor and the front engine cradle and stuff may have been carryover. Do the current mustangs have 4 or 5 lug axles? The old ones had 4, but I'm not sure about the new ones. If they have 4 it is definitely the old platform. Anyone know about this stuff?

Mustangs have 5 bolt axles, 4 bolt axles suck. the SN95 chassis has been changed and modified over the years but still basicly resembles the origanal fox chassis.
