220KW dohc v8 VS 220KW WINDSOR VS 351

Does anyone here have any experience or data on how the 220kw barra motor compares with the 220kw windsor. A local Ford dealer says that it is much better because it revs so much better. He also says it will see off my brand new 351 cleveland, so I figure he may not be that reliable :).

brand new 351 cleveland, what,did you buy a new engine and put it in a older car?

if the cleveland is a stock small port auto he may be right.. if the clevo has had any work done to it .. even extractors and exhaust then it's a new game.

its a GEM remanafactured 'stock small port' auto with a thermoquad and extractors, goes in for it's 800km service tomorrow. It's in an '87 XF panelvan (lsd, fastglass and disco dash).

Its got a lot of grunt down low, the 220kw V8 would be similar in characteristics I imagine ...

The Barra 5.4 is putting out closer to 240kw, no offence but I imagine your XF will get smoked big time.

It all depends on how much goodies your 351 has. But if it's anything like the specification of the XE 351 making 149kw then a Barra 5.4 SOHC would leave it for dead.
