Saw an engine builder about a performance engine for $3000 for my Triumph TR7
This is what he could do for me :
I supply block: (cost about $300)
He : Rebuilds engine: Grinds crank, puts in new strong main bolts, puts in flat top pistons, shaves head, ports and polishes head, balances engine, hot cam, puts on some old 78 XB falcon carter(i think carter's what he said?) carby thats done up and makes it fit.
He thinks it should develop with a comp ratio of 10:1 around 280 to 300hp(with nice exhaust) from 4.4 litres.(a P76(rover) alloy V8). Revs to around 6500. Also i can get a 4 barrel manifold for a Holly, maybe better than the carter.
Does this power sound right? Or is he getting me excited so he gets the work, then I'll be let down?
Apparently the rover V8 makes the same power as Ford or Chevs in that litreage.
What can a 289 Ford V8 put out with the above work?
I said I am after an engine with good power for circuit track days, dont really care too much about torque, as the car weighs with the V8 only 1000kg. Around 300hp should be ok do you think? Does $3000 sound like a good price?
The car should be well into the 5's to 100 with this power. Engine bloke says if set up for drags should do a 12 point something quarter! I'd like the top speed to be an easy 250. I have a low km jap import 400hp capable alloy mid 90's Supra 5sp gearbox to fit to the engine. A mate of mine has an falcon XR6 LSD fitted to his TR7. That might be the go for me too.
Heres a pic of my car. Got Simmons wheels, drilled 4 piston Ap racing brakes, since pic, lowered all round, new hard springs and shocks.
