Come on Raptor, it's the Pub section, can't we be free to talk about other cars too? The Tacoma has always been the Hilux before (just the US name) are you sure you are not thinking of the Tundra? Hiluxs and Tacomas have always been identical, unless they change now. Hope they don't! That looks nice.

Ok, I'll play along.

The Tacoma has never been the Hilux.

They look similar but the Tacoma has the front suspension design of the Prado with a coil spring (like a strut) and long spindle (not too dissimilar to the falcon design - apart from the front driveshaft of course). It's built in the US, has always had different engines and is LHD only.

The Hilux has either had a live front axle on leaf springs (is that still available?) or a torsion bar acting on the upper arm. Built in Thailand for the Aussie market I believe.

I agree, it does look nice but it's not a Hilux.

The Tundras their bigger brother.

Oh, and we had a dual-cab long before the US ever did.

It'd be nice to see us get the Tacoma based one then, and for Ford to give us the Ranger 4L V6 as opposed to the Courier :-) not that i have any intention of buying one, but it would make it nice to have those utes sitting in front of me accelerate a bit quicker

Raptor is right, the Tacoma, Tundra and Hilux are very different beasts (at least nowadays, in the early days they may have been similar?)
And raptor, the live front axle is no longer available on the hilux (sob...)

It appears to be an even wussier version of the current IFS hilux. Seems that toyota are going downhill with their 4x4's; the current cruiser only has a live axle on the standard wagon (what the government/mines use, very utilitarian), and chances are the next gen cruiser won't have a lixe axle at all (the replacment for the 100/105 series that is, hopefully the 70's will continue with their live axles)

EDIT: The above link is the RWD Hilux, but i imagine the 4WD version will be much the same, higher stance etc.
