frown 4WD GTS ?

HOLDEN will launch its VXII range of hot Commodores at the Sydney motor show - but don't expect the range-topping 300kW GTS to be there.
HSV is not expected to launch the VXII GTS until March next year when it should be boosted by a four-speed automatic gearbox - previously only a six-speed manual was available - more power from the Gen III V8 and possibly even four-wheel drive.

While HSV's Chris Payne would not be drawn on the possibility of all-wheel traction for the GTS, the technology is being developed by Holden for Commodore and HSV has been used as a technical Trojan horse before, the most recent example being the rear suspension control link which was added to the standard Commodores at the VXII update.

"Our GTS model positioning needs to move to another level. It needs to have a level of mechanical differentiation to appeal to our customers. Current owners would be interested in it (four-wheel drive) but not necessarily as standard," said Mr Payne.

"Four-wheel drive provides plenty of opportunities for us and we'd have to have a look at a four-wheel drive HSV - not just an SUV - but a performance model. But we'd need to ensure it maintains core values."

There's also a rumour of a 5.4 Litre 320kw GTHO 4WD

We could'nt of expected Ford to bring something first could we. I suppose a small consulation is that when they do its usually better though. Not that it wins sales.

I would'nt like to have the first 300+kw GTS 4wd. The price will very expensive too i would imagine.

I wonder how strong the gearboxes, tailshafts, halfshafts, diffs etc will have to be for an AWD Commodore/Falcon with 300+
kw/500+Nm???

The Falcon has a bad enough time with one diff letalone two

I can just image a magazine doing a 6000Rpm clutch dump in a brand new AWD GTHO and finding it spill its guts all over the track :(

Simple, just use the running gear from the 736Kw/1250Nm Bugatti Veyron.

** 0-300Km/h in 14 secs
** Top speed - 406Km/h.:D

Remember ProDrive owns Tickford now so when/if the AWD Falcon GT comes out it will eat anything HSV can put out for breakfast.
mmmmmmmmmm. WRC blue 350kw 6speed Falcon GT. Good by 22B!

I'd doubt that ProDrive could do a AWD Falcon without some serious factory development time. HSV wouldn't be able to do it without Holden doing most of the groundwork with the basic design of the Commodore. Don't get me wrong, I think if Ford does start building an AWD version of the Falcon, then I;m sure ProDrive will be able to bring a lot to the model - but ProDrive won't be building their own AWD system ...

Ford already have Awd systems running in various models around the world. Prodrive won't need to develop their own system.

Sorry what I meant was that with ProDrive's AWD experience Tickford could take the AWD Falcon and turn it into a real weapon.
