I am looking at several different donor cars to get a 5.0 out of to put in my Ranger. All are late 80's. What is the difference in the Town Car 5.0, Mustang 5.0 and the F150 5.0? Different cams? Electronics? I read somewhere that the Lincoln 5.0 is rated at 160HP. I am guessing the block and heads are the same, but maybe the internals are different.

If your trying to put it in a Ranger, the best 5.0 would either be a Mustang or a F150. I believe the Lincolns had diffrent wiring, some other stuff added.

towncars, Crown Vics, and Grand Marquis were rated 150 hp stock except for those that had dual exhaust. the differences are in the heads and cam. truck cam has better torque and mustang cam is more performance. towncar cam is different than ho type cam in firing order and stuff. you would do best by going with an explorer 97 or there abouts for the 5.0. it is a HO engine with good setup and not beat like a mustang and has gt40 or gt40p heads.
