The Mustang uses the 4.6 litre V8 - same as that delivered over here. The only Mustang to use the 5.4 was last year's Cobra R which put out 280kW in muffled street legal trim and 300kW without exhausts (race ready). Last year's Cobra R was limited edition only. I believe there have been further revisions of the 5.4 since this so who knows... This year's has a supercharged 4.6 and has been made into a main stream model. The SVT F-150 Lightening uses a supercharged version of the 5.4 although I can't remember the outputs - anybody else know these? And yes - the new GT40 prototype has a supercharged 5.4 in it! Don't know whether the blower will fit under the bonnet of a normal car though...
Mustang Cobra R had about 290kw and 520nm. As I said before it has the triton V8, whihc was cast iron. It is expensive to modify becasue it was not orignally intended for performance applications, hence the reason it was not mass produced for mustang. The 5.4L we are getting is not trialled, it is All-alloy, the first all-alloy 5.4L Ford has made, and it will probably be based on the All-alloy 5.4L which was in the GT40 concept car.

i assume that means that we will be the first to see this engine in a production car. mmmmmm, hope we don't end up being the guinea pigs, ironing out all the teathing probs. etc.
